Going to sleep and waking up in the middle of chaos every day starts and ends every day with anxiety and undue stress. The bedroom should be a place to relax and regroup not give you a bad case of “OMGs” Our bedroom is usually the last place we take care of because we can “just shut the door”. But the subtle mental and psychological weight it puts on a person is huge.
There is nothing worse than as soon as you open your eyes you are faced with stuff and clothing every where you look. Let alone trying to find an outfit for the day that has the matching pants and then finding the right shoes (both of them!!) Add the rest of family to the mix and that makes a hectic and chaotic morning for everyone.
A well organized closet and dresser make for a smoother transition from home to work. With just a few tools and some concentrated effort all the families closets can be transformed to usable and efficient space. Children can be taught the same tools at any age.
TIP: Start with a drawer, Yep just one. If you take it in small bites that ugly elephant of a bedroom will be transformed into a lovely place in no time. Give yourself twenty minutes no more no less. Set the timer on the stove. Once a day. Do not take out more than you can put back in the allotted time. Get rid of socks without mates (if you find the mate later turn it into a dust mop or better yet get rid of it), old underwear with rips, bad elastic, or never wear because they never fit right. Make sure anything that is taking up your valuable drawer space can be worn right now. If not get rid of it.
You are on your way to a bedroom you can enjoy AND you accomplished something no matter what else happened today.
